What do I do if my website is infected or hacked?

Firstly you need to act... It is irresponsible to keep a website on-line if you know that it could help harm your visitors.

• STEP1 - Don't Panic! - websites are infected every hour of every day, you have probably not been "targeted" so don't take it personally!

• STEP3 - Get the website cleaned, this will either involved restoring a backup of your website or manually cleaning the infected files.
• STEP4 - Secure your site, you don't want this happening again so you need to make sure you take the advice of a web professional and / or your web hosting company. Install the latest updates for any software you are running on your website and change your passwords.
• STEP5 - Reverse the damage, if you have been penalised by the search engines then you need to request a review of your website. This will return your website to normal and stop the horrible and potentially business shattering "dangerous website" warning messages that your website may have incurred.
